The changing leaves of a blueberry bush in Alaska, mid-August 2009. Though this was one of the first bushes to turn, fall certainly comes early that far north.
Thunderstorm and poppies at sunset, in Montana de Oro State Park, California. It was really windy when I took this shot, making for a bit of an exposure challenge. Luckily (?) my D200 was in the shop so I borrowed my friend's D300 (which does much better at ISO 1600). I also like this image after running it through a Photoshop watercolor filter, too; both images are in this gallery.
Sky Pond, Rocky Mountain National Park, in early September 2006. It was a rather blustery day, which made for cold fingers but also very little traffic on the trail.
Arches on the rooftop at Beckman Auditorium, Caltech. This is a peculiar building, a significant departure from the Mission Revival style of the older buildings on campus. For a while in the 60s and 70s, architects on college campuses everywhere decided they needed to be "different", and we wound up with buildings that leave us wondering, "should that be here?" Still, I'm a sucker for interesting geometric patterns.
Old railbed and bluebonnets in Texas, April 2010. There are a lot of spots along this railbed where you can get some really fun compositions.
Wagon wheel at a homestead and museum near Florrisant, Colorado.
Golden Banner and morning dew in Poudre Canyon, Colorado. Can you see the tiny bugs? I didn't see them while I was shooting, only spotted them on the monitor when I took the images off the camera.
Looking up at the dome of Palomar Observatory, here tipped 90 degrees from reality. I think this looks rather like a sail.
Along Hwy 1, Big Sur, California.
