The remains of a settler's cabin in Poudre Canyon, along CO-14
A view of Canyon Creek and changing aspen trees at sunset, along the road from Ouray up into Yankee Boy Basin. I left myself lots of time to set up this shot, arriving an hour or so before sunset and cooking dinner on the campstove. It's nice to not be in a hurry, so I can remember to just "be" and enjoy the place. This photo was exhibited in the Denver Airport and at the Colorado State Capitol.
Poppies of spring line the doubletrack at sunset in Montana de Oro State Park, California. My father-in-law and I found this spot earlier in the day. As luck would have it, a thunderstorm rolled through perhaps 30 minutes before (providing the bright clouds at upper right). The wind was blowing like crazy, so in the original photo, there was a good deal of blurring. It's a fine photo, but in the name of artistry and fun, I ran some Photoshop painting filters on it until I had an effect I liked.
A short, strenuous hike off I-70 in Glenwood Canyon brings you up to aptly-named Hanging Lake. The upper falls are gorgeous, too, but it's awfully hard to keep the droplets off the lens there! This was shot in May 2009 after several steady days of rain--a great time to catch the falls.

An old barn and a changing tree near Westcliffe, Colorado. The dark rainclouds in the background had just spent the last hour or so passing by. I'm glad I waited! Got some very dramatic light on the barn.
