A elk grazing in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. In the spring, elk are pretty calm, so when I saw a group grazing nearby I went out in the field where they were wandering by and just sat down. I waited, and this one got in just the right position for the light behind him to show the velvet on his antlers. Feels like summer!

Snowy Range, southern Wyoming, August 2010. I was hoping to catch some wildflowers on this morning's outing, but it was tough to find a place to get out of the wind. These sunrise and sunset 4x5 shots are typically at least 5 seconds, and sometimes longer, so a short break in the flower-and-lake-blurring wind was most welcome. Yellow paintbrush, aster, and elephant head wildflowers line the willows near this alpine tarn.
